Overview

Located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, Lom Wong offers an elevated Thai dining experience that stands out in a city where authentic flavors can be elusive. Nestled at 218 E Portland St, this restaurant masterfully weaves regional Thai culinary traditions into a thoughtful menu that reflects the diverse landscapes and tastes of Thailand. From aromatic curries to vibrant salads, Lom Wong invites diners on a journey through bold and nuanced flavors.

What sets Lom Wong apart is its careful attention to regional authenticity paired with a modern, refined presentation. The standout dishes echo this balance, with highlights like the Kaeng Phet Charinda and the intensely flavorful Ba Buey Khlak Ti Moklen crispy pork belly curry, both showcasing handpounded curry pastes that bring depth without overpowering the palate. Seafood lovers will appreciate the perfectly prepared tilapia and the Tom Yum Haeng Sen Yai, stir-fried wide rice noodles with squid and straw mushrooms steeped in a fragrant tom yum sauce.

Among appetizers, the chicken wings are well-fried, though some guests felt they depended heavily on accompanying sauces for full flavor impact. In contrast, the mango shrimp salad consistently wins praise for its harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and spicy notes—a dish that embodies Lom Wong’s ability to layer textures and tastes with precision. Complementing the savory courses, the seasonal creme brulees, especially lemon lemongrass and pink hibiscus, provide an inventive and delicate finish, showcasing the kitchen's creativity beyond traditional Thai desserts.

The dining experience at Lom Wong is enhanced by its welcoming, attentive staff who guide guests through the menu with enthusiasm and expertise. Whether seated at the bar or in the intimate dining room, patrons often comment on the personalized service and the kitchen’s willingness to accommodate dietary needs, pointing to a genuine hospitality spirit. The space itself is tastefully designed with a clean, modern aesthetic that builds a comfortable yet upscale atmosphere, making it ideal for special occasions or adventurous eaters seeking something beyond the typical Thai fare.

The restaurant attracts a diverse crowd—from casual solo diners discovering new tastes to groups exploring the varied regions of Thailand through curated tasting menus. Reservations are recommended due to the venue’s popularity, especially during peak hours, but walking in early or sitting at the bar can also yield a great seat. Located downtown, Lom Wong is perfect for those seeking both a culinary adventure and a night out in the city.

In sum, Lom Wong impresses with its commitment to authentic ingredients, regional diversity, and thoughtful execution. While a few dishes invite further refinement, the overall experience remains memorable. Ever since reading about Lom Wong and their Beardsley award, I was intrigued. I recently moved here from Seattle, where there’s no shortage of amazing Thai food, but I hadn’t found anything spectacular in Phoenix—until now.(Let me know if you have any other recommendations!) I happened to be in the area and stopped by solo, and I was thoroughly impressed. This isn’t your standard Thai spot. If you’re willing to trust their recommendations, you won’t be disappointed. I loved how the menu is organized by region—it’s such a cool way to experience Thai food, especially if you’re considering traveling there someday. I tried a noodle dish that was the closest thing to pad Thai on the menu, and it was really good. But the real standout was the shredded shrimp mango salad. Sweet, sour, savory, cool, spicy—it was absolute perfection in a bowl. Hands down my favorite, and I can’t wait to go back for more. The service was just as impressive. The host, Mike, was warm and accommodating, even without a reservation, and Carly was fantastic—attentive, kind, and spot-on with her recommendations. All in all, this was a wonderful experience, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Crowded but had reservations and was seated within a few minutes. Service was excellent and each dish was explained well. We had their version of omakase and they were able to accommodate for some dietary restrictions. The wings and the chicken curry was delicious. The seaweed salad was so refreshing. We had some seconds. The mango prawn salad on the other hand was one dimensional and had not much seafood. Their cocktails were also excellent Now the bad- the dishes were pushed out 5 at a time. So we were hurrying to finish some dishes before they got cold especially with salads and hot dishes given together. Now their excuse was that it's 'village style' but sorry I am not at a village. I wish to give this 4 and a half stars but not available.

This was my second time visiting, and while I liked it the first time, this second visit really impressed me. I think the key is variety—last time I only tried one dish, which didn’t give me the full picture. We decided to come back after seeing the restaurant had won an award, and we wanted to see what the hype was about. Since we didn’t have a reservation, we sat at the bar (on a weekday just after 5 p.m.) and were seated right away. The bartenders were incredibly friendly and attentive—they even made me a custom drink, which was such a nice touch. Now the food… wow. We had the scallops, wings, and the fried whole fish. I was honestly a little intimidated by the fish at first—it came with the head and bones—but it was so tender, easy to eat, and literally melted in my mouth. Everything was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. This spot is officially on my list of local favorites. If you’re in the area, it’s a must-try!

Best Thai food I’ve ever had. Me and one other person came to celebrate my birthday, and we were not disappointed. Reservations are tight here, so make one if possible but we took the risk. We came early (4:50pm on a Sunday) to try our luck and got a table! (Even if we didn’t, that’s ok, it clearly states reservations are recommended but maybe it was bday luck!) we got to sit at the bar, where we were greeted promptly and explained the beautiful story of the owners backgrounds and the meaning behind the menu. So amazing to see such difference simply based on region! We tried the amazing mango salad that was bright, spicy, and full of flavor. We also had the restaurant special which was a white fish dish, and the tom kha. This fed two people perfectly! We also got to try the Thai banana split for dessert and it was one of a kind! We had such a lovely experience, and I wish I could remember who served us, she was fantastic. I recommend this place for special occasions, it made me feel a little fancy for the day! Come early, as parking isn’t the best but it’s downtown! What do you expect. Make it an enjoyable walk :) Can’t wait to be back.

Very authentic Thai restaurant with great flavors and options some of the portions are on the smaller side but the quality of ingredients are excellent. The green mango salad was very fresh and refreshing but personally was not my personal preference so I would not get it again myself. The pork belly curry (Ba Buey Khlak Ti) was amazing and packed with flavor and had a kick of spice. The portion size was a little disappointing considering the price but I can understand as well. The wings were nothing special. They unfortunately lacked flavor on their own and relied on the dipping sauce for flavor so I would personally not order them again. They were fried very well I would love to see more flavor in the chicken in the future. The seasonal creme brulees were not joking one of the better creme brulees I have had in Phoenix. The different flavors (one more lemon focused and the other hibiscus) were distinct and great. The interior of the restaurant was very well done and clean no complaints there at all. Do not be shocked if you spend 50+ per person. Will try again.

My recent birthday celebration at Lom Wong was nothing short of extraordinary! We had the pleasure of experiencing the arai kodai, a specially curated dinner, and it was a revelation. Every dish was amazing, incredibly fresh, and bursting with flavor, providing an authentic and nuanced taste of Thai regional cuisine that is far from what I’ve come to expect from typical Thai restaurants. The atmosphere was perfectly warm and welcoming, and the service matched, making us feel right at home for such a special occasion. Their very creative cocktail menu also deserves praise—it offers truly unique pairings that beautifully complement the complexity of the food. The absolute standout dish at our table that night was the Green Mango salad. Its perfect balance of tartness, spice, and texture was one of the best things I’ve eaten all year! If you are looking for a dining experience that elevates Thai food, with incredible service and a wonderful vibe, I highly recommend Lom Wong. Go for the curated menu and prepare to be amazed!

We visited Lom Wong recently and were seated right away thanks to our reservation. The patio atmosphere was lovely—even on a semi-rainy Phoenix day, it felt cozy and inviting. The food was excellent. We started with the green mango (Yam Mamuang Boran) and bok salad (Pad Kwang Toon). Both were fresh and flavorful, though the green mango had a unique taste and texture that stood out. For the main courses, the crispy pork belly curry (Ba Buey Khak Ti) was outstanding. The portion was generous, the flavors bright with a coconut base, and the pork perfectly crispy. The medium spice level balanced beautifully with the mango. We also tried the squid pasta, which was exceptional—the squid was cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed it thoroughly despite usually not being a fan of squid. My wife had an orange wine that paired wonderfully with the dishes, while my Riesling heightened the spiciness in an interesting way. Dessert was a banana split with coconut sorbet, a refreshing and flavorful way to finish the meal. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Lom Wong. The food, atmosphere, and service all came together to make it memorable. We look forward to returning to explore more of their menu.
